Numbers

Follow AP style

  • Spell out all numbers below 10 (one, two, five, etc.), and use figures for 10 and above.
  • There are exceptions to the above rule. Always use figures when writing out game minutes, scores, ages, days of the month, dimensions, percentages (though spell out the word percent), sums of money, times of day and names of years.
  • Avoid beginning a sentence with a number; if you must, always spell out the number unless it is identifying the name of a year.
  • When writing headlines, you may begin with a figure, and you don’t need to spell out numbers below 10.
